THE STATE OF YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

THE STATE OF YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

Unemployment has been a cancer that has plagued most of the world’s economies in different intensities. Unemployment typically occurs when an individual who is qualified and well able to work does not secure a job. In the recent times the rate of unemployment around the world has risen due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Unemployment around the globe is attributed by factors such as:

Increase in population- when the population of any country increases and the resources remain constant it becomes increasingly hard to accommodate everyone in a productive manner there by resulting in unemployment.

Skills mismatch- this is where an individual is qualified for a particular field of work but they can’t secure jobs in the particular.

Excessive importation of services and products- as much as importation s good for the general health of the economy excessive dependence of it can lead a population to suffer unemployment as they prefer to import good s and services that they can produce and acquire locally.

Corruption- this is one of the factors that has really contributed in upholding unemployment in most economies while driving their economic health status down. Corruption prevents the qualified people from attaining jobs as they are awarded to the highest bidder or to people who could have relations or affiliations to a particular organization

Education- The educational systems around the world are diverse and different however their educational systems that teach students to be multidimensional in that they can integrate the talents and education to make something out of their lives. On the other hand, there are educational systems that have trained students to be one dimensional in that an individual will never look beyond what they trained for in school.

Although it could prove tasking to completely eliminate employment from our economies we ca definitely reduce and manage it effectively by:

Embracing the gig economy- traditionally one either worked in the formal or the informal sectors however with the advancement in technology there has been the birth of the gig economy. This economy allows for freelancing which can be done by anyone across the globe remotely.

Changing the educational systems- the educational system should make provisions for entrepreneurship training, uphold talent and creativity among the learners so as to equip them with diverse skills that they can leverage in real world

Leveraging the information age- in the age of technology one can learn any skill they wish and translate it to a profitable venture. Platforms such as workmate digital through their Skills Transfer Program teaches skills such as Digital marketing, transcription, data entry, copywriting among others that are very marketable in the marketplaces
